Gearing up while winding down
“The personal life deeply lived always expands into truths beyond itself.” ~ Anais Nin
Ending an academic year is always an interesting time. Closure; looking back on what has been accomplished with students provides meaning to all of the preparation. Planning for the next year gives hope that we’ll be able to do even more for those we mentor.
This year’s end, I am looking forward to more than just the next academic year. New beginnings; possibly in a new position, but more in the eager anticipation of getting my web design business firmly established.
I’ve devoted 20+ years to the academic preparation of others, while neglecting my entrepreneurial interests. There’s only so much time in a day. And while I’ve mentored many students who have gone on to be successful, I am finding that more and more simply lack the “fire”. I still enjoy teaching, but I’m discovering that, when combined with the exhausting campus politics one must endure, there’s more to Life.
So, I’m branching out. Putting the adage “those who can’t...” to the reverse.
