Am I on another inane "top XX web designers to follow on Twitter" list? Cause you new folks aren't going to get much in that regard.

Not watching Inauguration

I am so looking forward to new leadership in the US government.  But reading and listening to discussion about what the Inauguration will be, I’ve decided I’m not watching.

Seems it’s going to be a huge carnival of sorts.  Singers, dancers, acrobats (well, maybe not).  Preachers, for sure.  It just seems to be way too much for what we need at this time.

Frankly, I think the Country would be better off if Obama would forget the show, and simply take the oath and get to work.  We don’t need a party.  Other than new leadership, there’s not a heck of a lot to celebrate.

Conducting the orchestra

Listened to Bob Edwards’ show on XM Radio this morning.  He interviewed Howard Gardner and discussed aspects of education reform.  Gardner was discussing his theory of “multiple intelligences”, which I’ve heard/read about some time ago, probably in graduate school.  One thing he said that struck me was his reference to teachers needing to “conduct the orchestra” when teaching.

I’ve been thinking and designing my lessons like this for some time and now have a phrase I can use to describe what I do.

A classroom full of students is very similar to an orchestra.  Many different instruments which require different types of instructions in order for them to reach their ultimate potential in the particular piece of music.  How wonderful is that!

In a new light

Reading back through my most recent entry, I realize how bleak I sounded.  Sorry…

In the light of an extended holiday and some good reading and playing, I’m just about as cheerful as could be.  Hope you are, too.
